New Buttons

My Christmas present to myself.  Glass Art Deco - I love them.

this isn't a good photo but I found this and I think It's a Twinkle.  However it is about 2 inches in diameter.  Much bigger but so beautiful after a bit of TLC.

Some of my other finds yesterday at op shops.  Most of them are glass including the bright orange , pink, flower and the navy blue.  I love the bottom right button.  What a find..

Yes, this is me.  In ectasy looking through buttons for sale at my friend's house.  I am always owing her money.

Second hand treasure

I've stumbled across a group called Flea Market Finds where bloggers share what they have found in op shops and second hand stores etc etc.  Someone else's junk is always someone else's treasure.  During my lunchhour I have an op shop and a second hand store I visit regularly.  On the odd weekend I visit Petone where there are several op shops within a short walking distance.  What do I look for - cotton shirts to make quilts, doillies, carlton ware, buttons - I love old buttons, etc etc etc.

Here's the site if you want to have a look -http://herlibraryadventures.blogspot.com/search/label/Flea%20Market%20Finds
My friend Myra saw this beautiful Jones sewing machine on Trade Me last weekend and bought it for me.  She already has a Jones one and I've always said it should be mine.  Myra is terminally ill with cancer now and I don't want her Jones Sewing machine, I'd rather have my friend.  So she bought one for me, very reasonable price.  It works, has all the original tools and instruction book too.
While shopping with another friend Carol at the op shops I scored this gorgeous hanky for $3.00.  It is so delicate and beautiful I am going to get it framed.
And another little piece I bought same day which will go on a quilt of doillies eventually.
What to do, What to do?  I bought this vase thingy from the op shop (still has the label on it) but not sure what to do with it yet.  I thought it would be a screen as the neighbours live so close but I need to put something in it ??.
This week I found this polysterene head which is in excellent condition.  I'm going to cover it in buttons!!
and lastly this week I scored another addition to my buttercup Carlton Ware collection.
The drainer in the front.  Sadly I think it is the later edition of buttercup to the rest of my pieces as it is a brighter yellow and there is no label on the bottom, just a number.  I started my collection with the double dish I inherited from my Aunt, the round dish I found on Trade Me, and the gorgeous little gravy boat was given to me for my birthday from my friend Carol.

And of course I love the crocheted sugar bowl cover with beads on.  This was my Aunty Shirley's too, my grandmother also used them.

I love my treasure.

A lucky find -a story button?

I found this button and bought it for $6.  Yesterday I took it to my button expert and was told it was worth $20 - $25 NZ.  It's a story button evidently.. must be a story of a woman and a goat! Any ideas?

Pretty Buttons

SOME of my button collection that aren't so precious.  But don't they look colourful on show.
See the little Bakelite box I won on Trade Me.  It's full of shell buttons of all sizes and shapes.
I have a good collection of old coat buttons but I especially love the one in the middle.
It appears to be carved and was looking a bit worse for wear until I polished it

Art Deco??

A lucky assortment I won on Trade Me.  I love them all.

Pretty shiny buttons, more of the above

Is there Rehab for Button Collecting?

I am so bad, I am addicted!!!  My brother says I need to go to Button Rehab for treatment.

But since I don't smoke and I seldom drink and I don't have a husband or children at home,  I reckon I'll just keep looking for beautiful buttons to make me content with the World!!

Buttons can't hurt me, they won't argue with me and I don't have to feed them or clothe them..

They just put a smile on my face so what would Button Rehab do.. take the smile OFF my face???

Happy New Year

I haven't posted for awhile as I was overawed by some of the beautiful old buttons on blogs, considerably older and probably valuable.  I am only collecting because I love the beauty and colours and patterns and I'd love to learn the history even if it is in the last 100 years.

This is a fabulous Christmas present from my friend Carol who knows me too well. She found these buttons in an op shop and they are gorgeous.

I have been lucky enough to find a couple of new horse buttons so I think I will collect them when I can.  My Dad had a nickname for me "Horse" but only because there was a racehorse with my name when I was a kid.  I never minded him calling me that, it was something special between the two of us and now I miss it.

Look at these gorgeous display's of buttons.  Aren't some people creative.

Such a pretty button tree.
Gorgeous button wreath - I love textured white buttons

A topiary bush for green buttons.. hmmm!

Just beautiful

Wouldn't this be great to wake up too..  Brilliant colour
